DRUG DISCOVERY OF HARUAN CHANNA STRIATUS

SYNOPSIS

This is a drug discovery on Haruan Channa striatus, and a proprietary Haruan Traditional Extract (HTE) has been established to contain similar biochemical composition, and sustained the biomedical properties of Haruan. Furthermore, the nano-particles HTE (nHTE) tagged with Tecnitium (99mTc) was traced by gamma-camera in circulatory system entering internal organs and passing blood-brain-barrier into brain tissue in rats, supporting the PC 12 cell-lines research (rats phaechromocytoma cells) demonstrating pharmaco-physiological ability of nHTE as therapeutic agent improving cognitive function and neuroregenerative properties. Therefore, the main objective of this R & D is to establish HTE (a natural product) as therapeutic agent complete with standardisation, certificate-of-analysis (COA), producing prototypes of the OTC products and clinical batches at a GMP facility

Channa striatus

Channa striatus (haruan), fresh water snake head fish belongs to family of Channidae & have long been regarded as valuable food fish in far east. Their flesh is consumed for its putative effects on wound healing (Wee, 1982; Mat Jais et al., 1994). It is also used by patient in post operative period in the belief that it promotes wound healing & reduces post operative pain & discomfort (Bowman & Rand, 1980). Fish is known to contain glycine, component of human skin collagen that will combines with aspartic acid & glutamic acid to form polypeptide that is responsible for growth & healing (Heimann, 1982).
